A simplified way to offer reproduction licences

Bonus Presskopia is an economic association consisting of 15 professional, interest and trade organisations representing authors, publishers and editors. In order to offer reproduction licences in a simplified way, the mentioned organisations have chosen to work under one "umbrella" – Bonus Presskopia.
Organisation

The supreme authority of Bonus Presskopia is the Annual General Meeting. One representative from each member organisation is represented at the meeting. Current activities are conducted by a board of nine people and a secretariat is in charge of executing the day to day work.
Both authors and publishers are represented on the board. A few of the member organisations are not represented on the board but can participate in board meetings as deputy members. The chairman is nominated by the Annual General Meeting. The statutes of Bonus Presskopia provide that the chairman is to be impartial in relation to the member organisations.
Extended Collective Licence – ECL

To meet the need for simplified licensing solutions, a system of so-called extended collective licence provisions (ECL) are provided for in the Swedish Copyright Act. Under these provisions, agreements on the exploitation of works may be entered into with an organisation that represents a substantial number of Swedish authors in the field concerned. By entering into such an agreement, a user can also acquire the right to exploit works by authors not represented by the organisation.
The members of Bonus Presskopia are all examples of organisations that are authorised to enter into agreements under the ECL provisions as they all represent a substantial number of Swedish authors in the field concerned. The role of Bonus Presskopia is to manage its members' rights collectively.
Licensing Categories

Compulsory school and upper secondary school is the licensing category in which Bonus Presskopia signs most contracts, followed by the category of higher education. Agreements are also signed with for example schools for music and arts, churches and adult study associations.
In the workplace category agreements are signed with enterprises, authorities, associations and other organisations, for reproduction and dissemination of information within the organisation, including reproduction for internal training arranged by the licencee.
Remuneration to authors, publishers and editors

Bonus Presskopia ensures that creators and publishers who are entitled to compensation when their works are copied, gets remunerated when their works are copied. The group of rightholders includes among others writers, playwrights, publishers, photographers, journalists, composers, illustrators and publishers.
The compensation is distributed on the basis of statistical surveys. Within Bonus Presskopia there are five distribution groups representing the categories of reproduction: books, teaching materials, press, music and pictorial. Each member of the Bonus Presskopia belongs to one of the five administrative groups.
Administrative costs and deductions

Bonus Presskopia is non profit-making, all the money Bonus Presskopia collect in licence fees is distributed to the members after a deduction for administrative costs. In accordance with the statutes Bonus Presskopia has the ability to allocate up to 10 % of the copyright revenue for administrative costs. The administration cost has over the years been very low, both in a national and in an international perspective. In 2011, Bonus Presskopia’s administrative overhead ratio was 6.1 %.
Information activities

An important task for Bonus Presskopia is to provide information about reproduction rules under the agreements and about copyright. In order to increase the awareness of the licensing agreements, Bonus Presskopia visit schools and higher education institutions for information and verification purposes. During the check the actually amount of copied material is compared to the agreed copy volume. If breach of contract is discovered, Bonus Presskopia may forward compensation claims on behalf of the rightholders.
Bonus Presskopia’s mission is also to contribute to an international exchange of knowledge in copyright.
